Sweet dreams are made of this: modern, botanically inspired linens that just might be healthy for you. One of my favorite decor designers Amenity Home has gone completely organic. Nice going!
They also have introduced their once-custom order Muir Bed as a regular offering. Mid-century inspired, it’s made from mostly reclaimed Douglas Fir, finished with non-VOC stain, and is made by local artisans here in Southern California.
You can view the entire line of organic bedding, wall art, and nursery linens at the Amenity Home website. To learn more about the benefits of organic cotton check out this great primer on organic cotton at Treehugger.

I can hardly contain my excitement that amenity bedding has gone organic. I fell in love with their botanically-inspired duvet covers last year but reluctantly held off three times from buying one because I was determined to find an eco-modern alternative. Turns out it was worth the wait: amenity designers Nicole Chiala and Kristina de Corpo are offering organic options of two of their designs available in March. Available for pre-sale only directly through amenity.
Willow duvet by amenity, $325/385 (queen/king)
Available in Cocoa + Cream, or Cream + Sienna. Dreamy!
Bloom by amenity, $325-385. A groovy take on nature.
Both duvets are made using 320 thread-count organic cotton (certified by Dutch standard known as SKAL). Each duvet is printed individually using water-based, chemical-free dyes.
Fab Green also recommends modern zen style bedding at Gaiam, or for ultimate luxury check out pamper worthy organic duvets at Luma and Anna Sova.

Thanks to designTURF I now know about the beautiful work of British textile artist and painter Maxine Sutton. Sutton ingeniously brings together honored crafts of embroidery, needle punch felting and screenprinting into her textiles and interior products. The result: a fresh take on old-meets-new to create whimsical patterns with a hint of retro chic. Not to mention made with eco-friendly style in mind.

The Fab Factor: Sutton’s commitment to sustainable style begins with the use of reclaimed or organic fabrics and fibers for her creations. She sources plant-dyed merino-wool yarns from the Pyrenees, and she refashions recycled sweaters and shirts for her cushions that are filled with organic wool.
Where to find Maxine Sutton:
One of her embroidered prints are available for $300 at Anthropologie
Sutton will also be showing at:
Brighton Craft Fair
November 24-26
Corn Exchange
Brighton, West Sussex

Alison Satasi of Luma Bedding wrote in to share her freshly launched luxury organic bedding collection with FG Readers. The vision for Luma was borne from frustration in not being able to find organic textiles for her own home.

Handspun and woven pashmina wool blankets, £375.00

Indian silk throw, £125.00

Hand-embroidered cot blanket, £70.00
The Fab Factor: Luma’s bed linens, towels and cotton blankets are made using Skal-certified organic cotton (a Dutch organization). Wool is recycled from factory waste, and soap dishes she sells have been refashioned from recycled tires. Luma works only with certified fair trade suppliers whose facilities she’s personally toured (read about them in her About the People section of the Luma site. Many of them have been leaders in fair trade for 20 years. Products are packaged using recycled paper.
Extra Fab Props: We typically give designers an eco-questionnaire to fill out to determine the extent of their eco-friendly practices. Alison sent back a DISSERTATION on Luma’s practices and goals. Now that’s passion!
Thanks Alison!

I’ve been a virtual fan of Manhattan-based 2KH’s online boutique for some time but now they’ve relaunched with a dazzling array of chic newbies for home, baby, and body. Check out some of the eco-chic finds I found today (some are even wallet-friendly!).
Round Coconut Shell Lamp, $260.
Natural Lacquer Branch Serving Set in coral red. Made from tree-free resin, $84.
Circles of Bamboo Tray, $36.
Hotel Collection Organic Cotton Bedding, starting at $44.
The Fab Factor: the 2KH co-owners Mara Kloiber, Jim Kloiber, and Erin Hawker source products that are usually crafted from reclaimed or renewable materials. A portion of profits is donated to the NRDC and other environmental groups. Their 670 square foot jewel-box space was designed with eco-style in mind: featuring refurbished concrete, low V.O.C. paints, and custom-designed fixtures crafted from reclaimed and rapidly renewable woods, and eco-friendly resin.
Live in the Big Apple? Lucky you! You can visit the charming 2KH boutique in person:
2KH
458 West 17th Street
New York, NY 10011
866-458-1017
If you go, do tell!
Side Note: Catherine (aka Natural Girl) is going to tsk tsk me for blogging today instead of designing my thesis project. My rationalization: class got out early and I’m taking a little break!

It’s still a challenge to find bedding options that are both style-conscious and eco-conscious. Lots of pastel solid sheets sets–yawn. Fortunately prospects are looking up. I found two designs newly released by Gaiam
that appeal to my urban-zen tastes.
I’m drawn to the Snowberry sheets for the bold color and print. If my bedroom weren’t painted avocado green this would be a contender for me. Made of 100% organic cotton flannel, priced between $13.99 and $29.99 at Gaiam.
I’m considering the Cherry Blossom Duvet and Shams which might bring the ideal blend of serenity and energy to my room. Made of 100% organic cotton sateen, the queen-sized duvet is available at Gaiam for $101 (pre-season sale).

Modern, eco-friendly bedding is a challenge to find, but I did find some promising prospects at Gaiam today. The Colorblock sheets and shams feature a classic, modern geometric print. Currently available in this summery palette of greens and yellows, I’m hoping other colorways will follow so I can pull out the plastic and buy a set for myself and my celadon painted bedroom (green-on-green would be too–well, green).
I may opt for one of these duvet covers available in seven appealing colors. Made with 100% organic cotton sateen and non-toxic dyes. Great basics for the bedroom.
